C-mine by night

In these dark winter months, the number of daylight hours are limited, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t take any photo’s anymore. Both landscapes and architecture are ideal subjects in low light. The past week, I therefore went to C-mine in Genk to capture the powerful architecture in darkness.
I knew the site from my previous visit and therefor had some compositions in my head that I wanted to shoot. But when you enter a site like C-mine and witness all the colors and lines, endless opportunities for a strong picture are revealed. It would therefore be a shame to make copies of a previous session. A puddle of water with a beautiful reflection in the foreground, a mine shaft that lights up or a color of accent that brings the architecture and art to life, the opportunities did seem endless.

On the nights that I was at C-mine there was a strong wind, which adds an extra challenge when you do night photography. I therefore choose for longer shutter time and kept my ISO values as low as possible. This prevents noise in your images and flattens out the movement in light sources and smoothens out the moving clouds.

Also inside the lobby of the CC you find numerous possible compositions. Because there was a performance, I though focussed on the architecture outdoors.

If you are a fan of smooth lines and architecture, the C-mine in Genk is not the only place in Limburg for you as a photographer. The cites of ZLDR Luchtfabriek, be-MINE, Thor Park and Connecterra are unique in there kind and are a playground for us photographers.
